This appears to be a stingball grenade. These explode small rubber balls which hit which the force of a baseball thrown quickly. You can see their use here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDZwI2-L_Cs) and here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3atQ5leH0s). What at first appear to be sparks are probably tiny rubber balls, which hit much like rubber coated bullets. These grenades are often used for crowd control by police. This one appears to have been paired with flash bang grenades, unless there is some hybrid of the two out now.
